Independent digital newspaper
How OM News collects, uses, and protects your personal data, and the rights you have over it.
OM News is an independent digital newspaper. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “OM News” refer to the publisher of this website. For any question about your data, or to exercise your rights, contact us at [email protected].
Newsletter. If you subscribe, we store the email address you provide so we can send you the newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every issue.
Comments. If you sign in and comment, we store your comment, the language it was written in, and the account it belongs to.
Account. If you create an account, we store your name, email, and authentication data needed to keep you signed in and secure.
Usage and device data. We record aggregate article view counts and basic technical data (such as approximate region and time zone, derived from your connection) to serve the right edition and understand what readers value. We do not build advertising profiles from this.
To deliver the newspaper and the features you ask for, to send the newsletter you subscribed to, to keep your account secure, to measure the reach of our journalism, and to comply with our legal obligations.
We process your data on the basis of your consent (the newsletter), the performance of a contract (your account and comments), and our legitimate interest in running and improving an independent newspaper — including showing advertising that funds it.
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers that help us run the site (for example, email delivery and hosting), and only as far as needed for them to perform that service. Where advertising is shown, it is served by our advertising partners, who process data as independent controllers under their own policies.
We keep your data only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected, or as required by law. Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe; account and comment data until you close your account.
You may request access to your data, correction of inaccurate data, deletion, restriction of processing, and portability, and you may object to processing based on legitimate interest. To exercise any of these, write to [email protected]. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.
We may update this policy as the site evolves. The date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.
