Meta has entered into a landmark multi-billion dollar settlement with American state attorneys general to resolve widespread legal claims regarding the impact of its social media platforms on young users. Under the terms of the agreement, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram will pay up to $18 billion and introduce extensive platform overhauls aimed at protecting minors. The financial package includes funding for youth online safety initiatives across participating states. In addition to the monetary payout, Meta will enforce stricter operational guidelines on accounts held by teenagers and children. The required enhancements include daily screen-time caps, automatic nighttime limits on app activity, enhanced restrictions during school hours, and stronger screening mechanisms to prevent young users from accessing age-inappropriate content.
